BACKGROUND
On October 12, 2018 the City Manager’s Office received a request from Monique August, Sponsorship Chairperson for the Tara Hills Recreation Association Inc., requesting monetary support for their 2019 baseball season. In 1963, Tara Hills Recreation Association was established in the community with a mission to give local youth a safe environment to grow and thrive by learning basic values and the importance of sportsmanship. Tara Hill Recreation Association is a non-profit organization with a respected history in the community. Since inception, Tara Hills Recreation has impacted over 13,000 youth in the Bay Area through their Spring and Fall baseball leagues, instruction and tournament opportunities.
The City Council’s authorization of the sponsorship in the amount of $1,500 will help the Tara Hills Recreation Association continue to enrich the lives of the youth. Sponsorship includes recognition on press releases, website, banners and uniforms. Seventy percent of the youth participants are San Pablo Residents and Tara Hills Recreation Association uses the mechanics, camaraderie, and coaching of baseball to enhance the quality of life for youth through participation in team sports and exposure to adult role models encourage healthy, active lifestyles in youth to fight obesity and depression provide youth with coaching and tools to engage in cooperative teamwork, handle conflicts with peers, reduce acts of bullying, and build confidence enhance the safety of youth afterschool and on weekends by providing a positive, supervised recreational alternative to gangs, violence, youth crime and victimization.
FISCAL IMPACT
A total of $30,000 has been budgeted and earmarked for Event Annual Sponsorship for FY2018/19 under the Adopted FY 2018-21 Quadrennial Operating Budget - City Council Department (100-1110-44050). The authorized sponsorship in the amount of $1,500 will be deducted from this expense balance leaving a remaining balance of $2,775 for the remainder of FY 2018/19 for future sponsorships by the City Council.
