The sponsorship also falls under 4.4.2 After-School Tutoring Program under policy item Services for Families, Seniors and Youth 4.10.

BACKGROUND
On September 7, 2017 the City Manager received a letter from Ms. Lorna Padia Markus, Gala Committee Chair for the Boys & Girls Club of Contra Costa, in El Sobrante. The Boys & Girls Clubs of El Sobrante and The Diablo Valley unified as one organization earlier this year in support of a vision to serve more youth with a greater impact throughout Contra Costa County. The 2017 fundraising and gala event "Making Dreams Happen!" will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at the R&B Cellars in Richmond, CA and will feature entertainment, dinner, live auction and more. The event allows them to reflect on the success of the merger and significantly increase the number of youth served at the Boys & Girls Club.

Boys & Girls Clubs of America began in 1860 with three women in Hartford, Connecticut - Mary Goodwin, Alice Goodwin and Elizabeth Hammersley. Believing that boys who roamed the streets should have a positive alternative, they organized the first Club.
