The Youth Commission is asking the City Council to support an amendment to the California Constitution to lower the voting age from 18 to 17.
The City Manager is not making a recommendation on the request other than for the City Council to consider it.

BACKGROUND
On Wednesday April 12, 2017, a representative of Assemblymember Evan Low's office contacted the Staff Liaison to introduce ACA 10 to the Youth Commission and request their support.
On Thursday April 20, 2017, ACA 10 was as an item on the agenda of the Youth Commission meeting. Sixteen youth commissioners signed an informal petition in support of ACA 10. The Youth Commissioners expressed interest in making their support formal.
On Wednesday, April 26, 2017, the San Pablo Youth Commissioners toured the Capitol in Sacramento. Abel Pineda, San Pablo Youth Commission Alum and Field Representative for Assemblymember Tony Thurmond, along with Youth Services Staff, hosted the trip. The Commissioners visited the Capitol buildings, met with Assemblymember Tony Thurmond and his staff, and met with Senator Nancy Skinner and her staff. The Youth Commissioners were inspired by the Capitol's deep history and the influential leaders that they met.
