BACKGROUND
The City Manager's Office received a written request from Ms. Ruth Vasquez-Jones, Executive Director of Weigh of Life, requesting that the City Council consider sponsoring Weigh of Life's annual Spooky Fundraiser scheduled on Thursday, October 31, 2024 from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Veteran's Memorial Hall in Richmond.

For the past 17 years, Weigh of Life has helped families in West Contra County to enjoy improving their health through exercise, nutrition education, and social support. Weigh of Life partners with the City of San Pablo to provide classes at Helms Middle School. They are also in partnership with City of Richmond Employment & Training Department, West Contra Costa Adult Education, LEAP program to provide information and referral for educational and job training programs. The Spooky Halloween event raises funds and awareness, and offers children and families a safe Halloween party. The event will provide a Trick or Treat bag, dinner, music, and activities for children, including a costume parade and a costume contest.

FISCAL IMPACT
