BACKGROUND
The City of Richmond is implementing the Rheem Creek Restoration Project, a regional watershed improvement initiative designed to restore ecological function to Rheem Creek, while reducing erosion and improving long-term channel stability.
Per City of Richmond’s website, “this project intends to develop numerous concept channel treatment alternatives at the request of the San Francisco Regional Water Quality Control Board (Water Board). The Water Board’s involvement resulted in additional bio-engineered slope treatments to reduce the quantity and size of rock in the restored channel. Non-native tree and shrub will be removed and the bank will be replanted with native tree and plants to stabilize the Creek.”
The project scope includes removal of invasive vegetation, minor channel grading, installation of bioengineered bank stabilization measures, and replanting with native riparian vegetation.
