Build a Healthy Community is a major policy goal contained in the FY 2025-27 City Council Priority Workplan, effective April 7, 2025.
BACKGROUND
Instituted in 2009, Parks Make Life Better!® Month is a statewide celebration led by the California Park & Recreation Society (CPRS). It aims to raise awareness about the numerous benefits that parks and recreation provide to communities, including promoting physical and mental health, fostering social connections, and enhancing overall quality of life.
Parks Make Life Better!® Month is celebrated each July across California. Honoring parks and recreation efforts through this initiative raises awareness of the benefits of parks and recreation, strengthens public interest in and support for parks and recreation opportunities, unites California agencies under a shared message and identity, and positions parks and recreation as vital to community health, wellness, safety, and quality of life.
The City Council considered and approved this proclamation at the June 1, 2026, City Council meeting.
