BACKGROUND
The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) provides unsolicited federal funds to every municipality to be used solely for frontline police services. Under this federal grant program, the City of San Pablo Police Department receives awarded funds of varying amounts.

In October 2024, the City of San Pablo Police Department submitted a JAG grant application in the amount of $13,318 for the acquisition of an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS), to support existing public safety and law enforcement operations. On December 5, 2024, JAG application GRANT14282472 was approved for an award amount of $13,318 under Award Number 15PBJA-24-GG-04702-JAGX.

On January 6, 2025, the Police Department was notified that the acquisition of a UAS was not eligible for JAG funding consideration. Subsequently, the Police Department submitted a revised grant proposal to apply awarded grant funding toward the acquisition of 62 single-unit portable radio chargers, and 25 spare radio batteries, for a total quoted cost of $13,628.
