Traffic Safety Program - improve traffic and pedestrian safety through enforcement, outreach, and environmental design, is a major policy goal contained in the FY 2023-25 City Council Priority Workplan, effective May 1, 2023.
BACKGROUND
The San Pablo Police Department was recently selected by the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) to receive grant funding in a total amount of $60,000 to participate in the "Selective Traffic Enforcement Program" (STEP). These funds are provided to the Police Department to develop and maintain a proactive and comprehensive approach to address traffic safety through training, education, and enforcement, and to reduce the number of injuries and deaths resulting from motor vehicle collisions caused by impaired driving and other Primary Collision Factors (PCF).
The City of San Pablo is geographically located along Interstate-80 - a major freeway which spans from San Francisco to the Nevada state border.
