BACKGROUND
On December 4, 2024, the City Manager's Office received a request from John Evans, Helms Middle School Librarian, announcing a Reading Carnival event scheduled for May 2025. The purposed of the event is to celebrate students for their achievements in reading, encourage the students to meet their reading minutes goals, and build a culture of reading at Helms Middle School.
The event is open only to the students and staff of Helms Middle School as well as the volunteers from community organizations. The event will serve a total of 561 students. The sponsorship will assist with covering games, activities, and books that will be given out to the students.
Staff recommends that the City Council authorize a sponsorship in the amount of $2,000 to Bay Area Community Recourses as for the fiscal agent for the Reading Carnival Event at Helms Middle School.
FISCAL IMPACT
A total of $30,000 has been budgeted and earmarked for Annual Event Sponsorships for FY 2024-25 under the Adopted FY 2024-25 Annual Operating Budget - City Council Division (100-1110-44050).
