At the end of the October 6, 2025 City Council meeting, on motion made by Vice Mayor Pabon-Alvarado, duly seconded, the City Council requested a Proclamation for City Council consideration and approval recognizing October 2025 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Since 1987, the month of October has been nationally recognized as Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM), with Congress formally designating it in 1989. Many cities and counties throughout the state formally recognize Domestic Violence Awareness Month through proclamations and resolutions that highlight the importance of prevention, education, and support for victims and survivors. These local efforts also acknowledge and uplift the work of community organizations and service providers who dedicate their resources to assisting those affected by domestic violence and promoting safe, healthy relationships.
