BACKGROUND
On September 2, 2025, following motion made by Mayor Cruz, duly seconded, the City Council directed via majority vote for the City Manager to bring back a position of support on recent immigration integration legislation pertaining to the Renewing Immigration Provisions of the Immigration Act of 1929 Act.
In response to this Council directive, the City Manager's Office (CMO), in collaboration with the City's lobbyist, Townsend Public Affairs (TPA), reached out to the City's' Federal representatives, US Senator Alex Padilla (D-CA) and Congressional Representative John Garamendi (D-8th) for additional information on any active federal immigration legislation pertaining to the Renewing Immigration Provisions of the Immigration Act of 1929.
