FY 2025-2027 Council Priority Workplan Compliance Statements:
Improve Public Safety is a major policy goal contained in the FY 2025-27 City Council Priority Workplan, effective April 7, 2025.
BACKGROUND
The San Pablo Police Department was recently selected by the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) to receive grant funding in a total amount of $68,118 to participate in the ABC Alcohol Policing Partnership (APP) program to reduce youth access to alcohol and increase safety in the community. These funds are provided to the Police Department to develop and maintain an effective, comprehensive, and strategic approach to address alcohol-related crime and public nuisance issues associated with through education and proactive enforcement.
The City of San Pablo has more than sixty establishments licensed to sell alcoholic beverages, and faces persistent issues associated with underage drinking, public intoxication, and alcohol-related disturbances. From 2023 – 2025, the San Pablo Police Department has seen a 50% increase in DUI-related collisions, and a 24% increase in the number of subjects arrested for public intoxication.
