BACKGROUND

In 1980, Mr. Chaosarn S. Chao founded the Lao Family Community Development to aid Laotian refugees from Indo-China rebuild their lives in the Bay Area.  Mr. Chao devoted himself to the betterment of the quality of life for refugees and those less fortunate, especially in his fellow lu-Mien and Laotian American community.

 

Lao Family Community Development headquarters is in Oakland, CA with seven satellite offices in Oakland, Sacramento and San Pablo.  The agency has 62 staff members who provide services in over 25 languages and serves over 15,000 clients annually.

 

On April 5, 2017, Mr. Chao passed away at Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto.  Funeral Services will be held at the Richmond Auditorium on Sunday, April 16, 2017.  Approval of the attached proclamation is a small token of appreciation while honoring Mr. Chao’s dedication to the community
