BACKGROUND
On April 9, 2025, the City Manager’s Office received a request for sponsorship from the Kiwanis Club of San Pablo for Our Children to support its Cinco de Mayo Festival. The event is scheduled on Saturday, May 3, 2025 from 11:00am to 8:00pm at El Palenque Grill (1439 23rd St.) and is open to the public. The Cinco de Mayo Festival is meant to be a fun and safe place for the community to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. This sponsorship will help with the Kids Zone at the event, which will provide a fun and safe environment for families to enjoy. The event will include games, activities, and entertainment. The Kiwanis Club of San Pablo for Our Children is a non-profit organization dedicated to uniting families and communities. The mission of the Kiwanis Club of San Pablo for Our Children is to advance a better life for all children, youth, and adults.
Given the use of public funds in connection with this City Council event sponsorship, the event sponsor must ensure that the scheduled special event will be non-exclusive and open to the general public. Additionally, an approved event sponsorship will also authorize the temporary use of the City’s official City logo for marketing purposes for this special event only.
This event sponsorship is subject to obtaining a Special Event Permit from the San Pablo Police Department. The Latina Center will serve as the fiscal agent for the Cinco de Mayo Festival Event.
FISCAL IMPACT
$30,000 has been budgeted for Annual Event Sponsorships for FY 2024-25 Annual Operating Budget under the City Council’s budget (100-1110-44050). The authorized sponsorship in the amount of $2,500 will be deducted from this expense balance leaving a remaining balance of $8,500 for the remainder of FY 2024-25 period for future sponsorships by the City Council through the end of June 30, 2025.
