COUNCIL PRIORITY WORKPLAN STATEMENT
San Pablo Beacon Community Schools Initiative and Improve connections to healthy eating and active living are adopted policies contained in the FY 2023-25 City of San Pablo City Council Priority Workplan, effective May 1, 2023.
BACKGROUND
On November 21, 2011, the City of San Pablo City Council passed a resolution to develop a San Pablo Full Service Community Schools (FSCS) Initiative with the goal of transforming all schools in San Pablo into Full Service Community Schools (Community Schools). In a Community School, the school district, city, county, community and faith-based organizations, businesses, families, and philanthropists form a strong, deep, and transparent partnership to jointly address the identified needs of students, families, and the community in a comprehensive, integrated, and accountable way.
On February 16, 2015, The Youth, School, and Community Partnerships Division’s (YSCP) Team For Youth (TFY) Grant Program was redirected as the funding arm of the FSCS to support agencies interested in expanding or enhancing school-based programs and services for San Pablo youth and families in alignment with the Community Schools Initiative. On May 15, 2017, City Council approved the renaming of the initiative to the San Pablo Beacon Community Schools Initiative (SPBCSI) to reflect San Pablo joining the Beacon National Network.
On November 28, 2023, the Community Services Standing Committee (Cruz/Pineda) received information regarding the proposed merger of Team for Youth and Childhood Obesity Prevention Grant Programs, and the Request for Proposal Solicitation for Fiscal Years 2024-25 through 2026-2027.
On February 5, 2024, pursuant to Resolution 2024-013, the City Council of the City of San Pablo authorized the consolidation of the Team for Youth Grant Program and the Childhood Obesity Prevention Grant Program into one administered grant program.
The City issued/opened the Team For Youth RFP on February 26, 2024, and closed the RFP on April 11, 2024.
